腎系膜細胞是血管周圍細胞，位于腎小球毛細血管袢之間的中央部位。系膜細胞有多種功能，包括合成和組裝的系膜基質，內吞作用和處理血漿大分子，通過系膜細胞收縮或血管活性激素的釋放[1]調控腎小球血流動力學。系膜細胞也能合成，聚集和控制腎小球系膜基質成分的變化。在多種腎小球疾病中，如IgA腎病、膜增生性腎小球腎炎、狼瘡性腎炎、腎小球硬化癥、糖尿病腎病等，均能檢測到腎小球系膜基質的生產過剩[2，3]。這些關鍵的作用表明腎系膜細胞是研究生理和病理環境下系膜損傷和腎小球功能的理想模型。
Sciencell研究實驗室的人腎系膜細胞是從人的腎臟組織中分離得到的，純化后凍存，冰凍運輸。每管細胞密度超過5×10^5/ml。該細胞可通過纖連蛋白、Thy-1和平滑肌肌動蛋白特異性抗體的免疫熒光進行鑒定。本細胞經檢測不含HIV-1、HBV、HCV、支原體、細菌、酵母菌和真菌。如采用ScienCell 實驗室特制的培養基，可保證此細胞15倍增殖。
